One of the reasons homeowners choose quartz worktops is because they're easy to live with. They offer the look of natural stone, but without some of the maintenance that comes with materials such as marble or granite.

That doesn't mean you can completely forget about them, though.

A little day-to-day care will help keep your worktops looking their best for years to come.

Everyday Cleaning

For most households, keeping quartz clean is straightforward.

A soft cloth, warm water and a small amount of washing-up liquid are usually all that's needed to remove everyday marks and spills. Once wiped down, simply dry the surface with a clean cloth to prevent streaks.

Many of our customers are pleasantly surprised by how little effort is required to keep quartz looking pristine.

Do Quartz Worktops Stain?

Quartz is highly resistant to staining because the surface is non-porous. Unlike some natural stones, liquids can't easily soak into the material.

That said, we still recommend wiping up spills as soon as possible, especially things like red wine, coffee, curry sauce or beetroot, which can leave marks on almost any surface if left for long enough.

Can You Put Hot Pans on Quartz?

This is probably the question we hear most often.

Quartz is incredibly durable, but it's not completely heatproof. The natural quartz is combined with resins during manufacturing, and sudden or extreme temperature changes can potentially damage the surface.

For that reason, it's always best to use a trivet or heat mat when placing hot cookware on the worktop.

It's a simple habit that can help avoid unnecessary damage.

What Should You Avoid?

Quartz is tough, but a few precautions are worth taking.

We recommend avoiding:

• Abrasive cleaning pads
• Harsh chemical cleaners
• Bleach-based products
• Paint removers or strong solvents

It's also worth using a chopping board rather than cutting directly on the worktop. While quartz is highly scratch resistant, chopping boards will help protect both the surface and your knives.

A Low-Maintenance Choice for Modern Homes

One of the biggest advantages of quartz is that it doesn't demand much attention. There's no sealing schedule to remember and no specialist treatments required.

With simple everyday cleaning and a little common sense, quartz worktops can maintain their appearance for many years.
